Walking Tarlabaşi 2011-2017 by Christine Schörkhuber

Please note: We are able to provide only a teaser of the original broadcast in our archive.

Every year from 2011-2017, the filmmakers were walking the same routes through Tarlabaşı and talking to the people who live there. This Neighbourhood of Istanbul is not only distinguished by its exciting history and unique socio-cultural dynamics, it is also the location of one of the most spectacular and equally bizarre construction projects in recent Turkish history. In the middle of one of the poorest districts of the city, a chic residential and office district for the Upper Class should have been constituted until 2017. So far, the high-gloss district is only existing in the catalog while the daily fight for survival, urban space and self-determination takes place on the street every day.

A closer look while walking by.

Christine Schörkhuber studied at the Academy of Fine Arts video/videoinstallation with Dorit Margreiter, graduated with distinction in 2008. Lliving and working as sound- and media artist, video maker and musician, mainly in Vienna but also in international context.
