Originating from the Piedmont Plateau, which spans from New Jersey to Alabama, the Piedmont Blues is a distinct form of country blues. Characterized primarily by a style of guitar playing which involves picking a syncopated melody on the treble strings, supported by a regular alternating bass string pattern played by the thumb. This results in a sound similar to ragtime or stride piano.
