12’ Bar Ramblin’ #48 ‘More Soul-Blues’ with Stefan Matussek

30 June 2020
  • Blues
  • Funk/Soul
  • Melancholy
  • Soulful

In this episode I return to the Soul-Blues. The name of this subgenre alone sums up quite nicely what to expect from it: In the late 60s and early 70s a number of musicians decided to bridge the gap between soul music and the electric blues and combined the sounds of artists like Otis Redding, Ray Charles and Sam Cooke with those of Muddy Waters, Elmore James and Jimmy Reed. Gospel Music also had some influence on this particular style. Bobby “Blue” Bland is often regarded as the pioneer of the Soul-Blues.
