In October’s episode of Afroelectronik Juba celebrates the month of Nigeria’s Independence from British colonial rule with a show dedicated to a golden era of Nigerian music: the 70s.

She dives into the vaults of contemporary Nigerian music history, whilst exploring a selection of Highlife, Afrobeat, Juju, Fuji, Afrojazz, Psychedelia, Reggae music and more, selecting mainly from Strut Records’ legendary Nigeria 70 compilations series.

The show is also blessed with an intelligently selected extended Highlife, Calypso and Afrobeat mix courtesy of Jaxx. Jaxx is a DJ and former guest on Juba’s show who, having grown up in a Caribbean household, has always fascinated by the similarities between Afro-Caribbean/ Latin music and sounds emanating from within the African continent.
