Trouble in Paradise #1 w/ Teplice & Floral Notes

…the scales tip ever further against Life in a place where Paradise allegedly once dared to bare its face in public; nowadays, to catch a glimpse of its coattails whipping round a corner and out of sight is a rare delight….

Trouble in Paradise is the experimental radio project of Matilda Jones (Teplice) and Finn Teesdale (Floral Notes). A playful nod to our nuptial status, the title connotes the elusive nature of domestic fulfilment alongside a bracing existential critique of the polycrises of late-capitalism. The show focuses on the changing nature of the urban experience, using music to explore the radical achievements of the past and offer a utopian glimpse into the possibilities of a brighter future. Each episode guides listeners on an aural quest through the frustrations, sorrows, and euphoria that preoccupy the inhabitants of our ~Troubled Paradise~.

In addition to the music, a pivotal segment of the show comprises interviews with various artists, musicians, writers, promoters, activists and residents of the city we call home (Berlin). In this episode, we speak to Emma Ramsay and painter Teeb Aljammal who work and live, respectively, in the Kreuzberg community space Refugio. They offer us a glimpse of life inside this non-profit oasis in the heart of the city.

Teeb’s solo show United Consciousness will be running this Friday 20th and Saturday 21st of October from 15:00 – 20:00 each day at Baynatna, the Arabic library. The address is Dammweg 216, 12057 Berlin.
