Hydro Bodies Assembly Podcast by Corpi Idrici
Corpi Idrici is a transdisciplinary collective for artistic research, founded in 2021 by Forevergreen out of the desire to create a shared path of exploration and imagination—starting from the unique relationship that Genoa has with water. Stretched out between the sea and the mountains, the city has developed lengthwise (at about 35 kilometers, it’s one of the longest cities in Italy) and is crossed by more than 70 streams, many of which, for urban and industrial reasons, have been buried since the Middle Ages.
Supported by Perform Europe, in 2025 the collective set out on a European tour with Transgeographical Hydro Bodies, that started in Genoa at Panorama by Something Fantastic, and went on to The Hague at iii, Oslo at Tenthaus, and Berlin at Cashmere Radio, with a series of workshops and lecture performances called Hydro Bodies Assembly.
This journey across Europe, meeting with artists and activists, intended to raise common awareness about waters to share experiences, stories, sensibilities and possible strategies to promote a paradigm shift in relations between the human and the more than human, with the goal of recognizing rivers, streams, seas and rainwater as entities with legal rights. Throughout the tour of Hydro Bodies Assembly we questioned: What it means to represent a natural—specifically aquatic—entity? How do we speak for or alongside the non-human? What are the limits and potentials of legal representation, and what forms of documentary and performative representation can be mobilized to honor water bodies as political and affective subjects?
The materials generated during each gathering became part of a growing collective aquatic archive, which culminates in the Hydro Bodies Assembly Podcast, a sort of performative assembly in the form of a shared ritual of care and political imagination, allowing for the circulation of situated voices, sonic memories, and rights-based claims across territories .Like a sound photo album, Hydro Bodies Assembly Podcast moves from city to city, shifts topics, and yet discovers unexpected connections and similarities along the way. It presents a collection of voices and sounds against territorial extractivism at the expense of natural entities, conveying the corporality and spirituality of oppressed and obliterated ecosystems and spreading the message of the Charter of Rights of Hydro Bodies.
Hydro Bodies Assembly Podcast is made by Matteo Manzitti (Corpi Idrici) with the other members of the collective: Lucia Bergamaschi, Gaia Cambiaggi, Anna Daneri, Anna Positano, Nuvola Ravera, Nicolò Servi; and the contributions by Hydro Bodies Assembly participants.
