Dreamboat #8: Sommerloch w/Leo

It’s Tuesday, yet Dan hasn’t returned from his “weekend trip” to “Paris.” With the confidence of a lioness, Leo decided to unberth on her own. Somehow, she managed to turn the right knobs to play you her signature style of “melodic music with slightly self-reflective lyrics stemming from excessive listening to morning shows,” as Dan once described it.

You can’t be sure whether quotation marks are transmitted via radio, just as you can’t be sure about most other things music is supposed to express, including feelings. As a professional and perhaps psychological default, Leo resorts to the verbal realm because of this lack of control and gives a little insight into what it’s like to be a lyrics-focused listener.

It’s the first week of the summer holidays in Berlin, which inspires some of the song selection and also prompts a call-in from Daniel, reporting from the famous Viennese Sommerloch and reflecting on the melancholy associated with Italy’s yellow streetlights: for some, a symbol of their yearly two-week holiday; for others, of home.

Dreamboat’s Dreamboat of the Week (DOW) is Hunter S. Thompson, who left the studio when Leo started broadcasting half an hour late because he doesn’t like waiting. Fair enough. Us neither. We’re looking forward to having Dan back next week.
