ears of a composer ear of the tiger w/ nico sauer – DROWNING

03 January 2024
  • Ambient
  • Bombastic

welcome back to the ear of the tiger, where the world is seized through ears that pretend to be eyes in order to trick aligators, rabid buffaloes and the likes.

lately i've been interested in drowning.

(splash sounds) (squeak sound)

drowning as in: falling into a river or a lake, or into the ocean or the mediterranean sea, or even just slipping in a bathtub to drown, not the kind of unconscious drowing after hitting your head on the corner of the bathtub, but the conscious, fully aware, awake kind of drowning.

aware and conscious of having a bunch of water flowing into the wrong hole of your throat, into your lungs, into your bronchia. that kind of drowning.

the deep touch that turns you from a continental vessel into a maritime membrane, finally, you know, fatally, that kind of drowning.

you cannot drown in the same river twice, as the old greek says, looking at the bodies of those who have drowned, once, on their way to the shore.

but drowning is drowning, isn't it? or are there different kinds of drowning, depending on the type of water, its taste, its color, its purity, its brand, its price?

the explorer drows in explorer water, the adventurer drowns in adventure water. we, the party on the cruise ship, we will drown in fucking luxurious, luscious limbo party water.

but nothing is more luxurious than a thought that fills the gap that life leaves when it ends.

take a deep breath, lay back, shape your lips like the outline of an infinity pool and….

(sing one vowel)

A

into the spume, from the rail of the Argo, the ship with only one name, only one shape, but many, many parts, there jumps this guy called Butes.

I

U

E

O

driven by the ennui of a toxic, heterosexual environment, deprived of touch, butes takes the biggest leap for the deepest touch

he fills his lungs with water. the spume seems to come out of his ears, he's driven, driven to the shore and there: aphrodite!

the hottest of all goddesses, and also the only one currently around, pulls him out of the rough waves before he smacks against the cliffs, bangs him good and pushes him back into the water to really, once and for all, drown

the sensation of drowning can be sustained as long as you can hold your breath

to hold the breath longer, singing can be a good excersise. sing as long as you can.

choose your vowel wisely, it will affect the duration
