For the third summer in a row, Gigsta is celebrating the sunny and sociable spring and summer period with a series of guest on the show. This month, we welcome the French-Japanese now Brussels-based musician Mika Oki, visiting Berlin on a quest to exploring her Modulor dreams. Mika has worked with dancers, makes installations, produces her own music and plays out as a DJ. She is affiliated to the Word Radio and her regular slot The Waking Life is hiiighly recommended.
After Gigsta hosted a show about Toffler’s Third Wave, she and Mika dwelled into another book they both share a fascination for: Ocean of Sound by David Toop. First published in 1995, the book is an early exploration of ambient, both as a genre and as a way of listening. As a consequence, beatless beauties and ethereal palettes of sounds are on the menu for today!
Thanks to David and Diane for helping out and reading the quotes we picked out <3
« This past hundred years of expansiveness in music, a predominantly fluid, non-verbal, non-linear medium, has been preparing us for the electronic ocean of the next century. As the world has moved towards becoming an information ocean, so music has become immersive. Listeners float in that ocean; musicians have become virtual travellers, creators of sonic theatre, transmitters of all the signals received across the aether. »
On June, 19th Gigsta will be hosting the show with Minor Science and on July, 16th she will be joined by Mailie. The show is happening in Berlin, Lichtenberg and you can contact us if you’d like to join!
If you enjoyed this show, we would also recommend Transience and The Gentle Good Night Show on Cashmere Radio 🙂
