Happy Hours #13 w/ Grrr: Sweaty Hours

On my way over to Cashmere there was a fire on the subway that night, which… was pretty freaky. And the studio was super hot and sweaty despite the air condition being cranked. Summer was doing its thing and I was a bit all over the place. Couldn’t quite figure out which sweaty vibe exactly I wanted to hear. Slow and sexy? Disco Fever? Blissed out Deep House? The show moves between these moods and takes a few hard turns along the way. It starts with some serious Diva action. While most mash ups feel pretty pointless, the Aaliyah x FKA Twigs thing is just… hot. And Mariah really makes me smile at the moment, because…. The Chris Nazuka track is a personal psychedelic favorite. I remember hearing it for the first time and it felt like it lasted for hours, like you could life inside that track. Albion’s ›Thunder‹ is basically just a functional edit of an obscure Austro-Pop track from the 80s, yet it holds a very special place in my aging disco heart. Blurry memories of a night that went deep into Sunday afternoon, at one of those unlikely places that make Berlin still feel wild and bizarre and lovely. A DJ with heavily dilated pupils going at it, hour after hour after hour for a crowd of seven or eight people dancing and smiling as hard as they could. SCB is no other than Scuba who used to run Sub:stance at Berghain, which… never really clicked for me. Feel like my days are normally filled with enough dark’n’heady-ness, so I like my nights to be a bit brighter than that. Well… it seems like even the proper heads need the occasional break. ›Loss‹ is just pure dumb happy fun and catchy as hell. Oh and speaking of happy… finally another ›Happy Records‹ track (Mad Mike’s ›Heartbeat of a Groove‹).  Along the way there’s some pretty sloppy mixing (sweat must have gotten in my eyes) and for some reason I sound pretty confused on the mic. Swear I wasn’t stoned. Just… you know… hot.
