This two-hour deep dive on the notorious (and legendary) Throbbing Gristle traces their ever-changing practice from its genesis as COUM Transmissions in the early 1970s through to their disbanding in 1981. Dan Fox, a writer/musician/filmmaker, whose documentary on COUM and its evolution into Throbbing Gristle (co-directed with Marcus Werner Hed) will air on the BBC later this year, joins host Eve Essex in a conversation on their sound, history and influence. Sharing anecdotes gleaned from interviews with band-members and associates, Fox illustrates the group’s complex evolution, their conceptual convictions, the contexts they emerged from and worked in, and their continual efforts to uncover new artistic territories.
