While Berlin nowadays is thought of as a Hub for Techno and electronic music more broadly, before the 1990s the Berlin music scene created a whole lot of Punk, Synth Pop, Neue Deutsche Welle and other Oddities.

In the demilitarised West Berlin enclave there was no conscription to the military. So between the early 1960s and 1989 it became a focal point for west german conscientious objectors, punks, students and general counter culturists as well as artists from all over the world.
