“Beatmap” is an ars poetica in the sound of a music box and a door. The host makes a MeToo statement and immediately is cast in a karaoke of David Bowie’s “I’m Deranged” that breaks on doxa; and from this word begins a Faustian recursive examination of the effacing and self-compromising nature of his artistic origins in high school Surrealism. An encyclopedia bot provides the terms of self-examination with horrific, interrogative vocalizations of error—doxa, emotional detachment, grandiosity, Irma Grese, and metronome. Some of this content first appeared on the Cashmere karaoke special, Who Is Next?, on The Truth To Power Show produced by Vijay R. Nathan and Scott Raven for Radio Free Brooklyn, or on Berlin Spoken Word, produced by Rhys Anderson. (Partial collection of sample materials here on a YouTube playlist.)
