This ninth episode of Open Sources presents two special guests based in Jogyakarta, Indonesia: Wok the Rock, artist, curator and founder of the Yes No Wave Music label, and Rully Shabara, vocal artist know for projects such as Senyawa, Zoo or Setabuhan. They talk about the inception and activity of the label, their punk and metal background, conceptual and political concepts they are working with, the birth of Senyawa and the way this last project acted as a catalyst for Rully’s vocal practice. The interview is interspersed with a selection of Yes no Wave releases, Wok’s personal projects and diverse examples of musical projects introducing Rully’s vocal work and its evolution over time.
The last half an hour is dedicated to a playlist of popular music from Indonesia, that Rully and Wok prepared especially for this episode based on their interest for the working class, popular culture and the way it reflects the specific social values of an era.
