A first for us here at REBEL! FM, we have 2 transmissions this month! Excited at the prospect of showcasing more talent on the platform and channeling positive energy, something that's getting scarcer by the month in these here times.

The first episode of this month sees Victor Munyasya alias Munyasya take the reigns. The first I learned of Munyasya was in 2020 after hearing his edit of Makadem & Behr's cross-regional hit collab 'Nyako', an original club-inspired, floor-thumping weighty gritty take on an otherwise melodic funky light upbeat tune, it was music to my ears (low-hanging fruit, forgive me) it seemed to point towards an alternative kind of 'Afro' House that was still bubbling and forming. The bass he programmed on that track was sublime, it's a track I still spin today on rotation heavily, he seemed light years then compared to the budding Electronic production scene of the time, the discerning ear could tell & I was impressed, rightfully so.

Munyasya has gone on, since then to establish his own record label Xanes through which he's released a string of singles as well as created a compelling body of work that's as every bit diverse as his undertakings- film, writing, production & DJing to name what we know. As I kept tabs on him early on and followed his releases, said diversity began showing it's neck. In 2021 he contributed a clever bass-y single 'Incandescent Plight' to Air Texture's location specific electronic music compilation series 'Place' (Place:Nairobi) that was curated by KMRU, you can read about it here on DJ Mag. A string of releases followed including notably (I may be biased, seeing as I lean heavily towards his more unforgiving low-end endeavors) 'Borrowed Cadence' that went on to get pressed on the INSHA vinyl compilation by the Nairobi Ableton User Group & Goethe Institute. Last year saw him release '68 Extra Years On Earth' with Thomas Burkhalter of Norient/Melodies In My Head pressed onto the 'Joy Anger Doubt' vinyl compilation, a tune born out of an interview between the two, this was followed by his wave-making EP 'An Adwari' featuring Lizzy Agolla that enjoyed remixes from RÄK, Kiberu & Caisis. He dropped 4 releases on his Xanes label and most recently featured on Kamushez's album Magnum Opus, Pt.1 on the track Insomnia. Be sure to check out his works, I can only list so many.

Munyasya credits his influences to local and international practitioners that moved him in one way or another to help coagulate into his raw experimental electronic emotional sound. One to listen to & watch out for, REBEL! FM is honored to have Munyasya grace the show, love to all people reached.
