Welcome to the second part of the radio and power episode, where we explore radio as a tool of, against, and beyond power structures. Here, we start where we left off last time: the historical moment at the end of the cold war that marks a certain technosocial and political distribution of global powers, and trace a new way of thinking about hegemony and tactics against it through radio.
In this episode, we go through several examples – Radio Glasnost in East Berlin, Radio Tilos in Budapest, Radio 92’ in London, Radio Zid in Sarajevo and B92 Belgrade – to think about media tactics and strategies of being a smuggler or a pirate, and thus question what we can do to make space for different ways of being in the world and on air.
Lend us your ear and tell us what you think!
