This is The Weirding Module – a show that tunes into spoken-word and the voice in contemporary art and experimental music – today we're deep diving into John Cage's song books and spoken word pieces taking in some of his many collaborators, interpretters and critics including David Tudor, Takehisa Kosugi, Christian Wolff, David Behrman, Yasunao Tone, Charles Amirkhanian, Jim O'rourke, Sun Ra, Joan La Barabara , Terre Thaemlitz, and Amelia Cuni, Rheinhold Friedl and Robert Wyatt plus writings from Cornelius Cardew and Douglas Kahn.

We're going to consider Cage as a contradictory figure whose music sought to erase personal taste but ended up centring his own personality, who remained closetted well past the stuggles of gay liberation from the 70s onwards and who's expansion of music to include sound and noise failed to address and ignored recording technologies and the social and political contexts of sound.

But above all we'll be doing what most people don't do we'll be listening to Cage's music.
