I think of Carlos as an archipelago of enrichening conversations amidst a flood of chit-chat.
Carlos A. Segovia is a British-born Spanish independent philosopher and academic based in Berlin. He works in various ways on the notion of worlding. Subjectivity and an objectified world or universe, similar to the ego and the unconscious in psychoanalysis, are the same side of the Möbius strip and thus form a paradoxical non-duality. What is perceived to be inside is also outside.
In this episode we will be talking about subjectivity’s artful plasticity (not unlike sculpture, as it is closely linked to spatiality and existential territories), which can be mobilised by caring for our singular idiosyncrasies.
Desire becomes constitutive of subjectivity as a project: by projecting ourselves into the future we create new possibilities of being-in-the-world and open up the perpetual flux of becoming-other, with which we above all counteract our condition of being helplessly thrown into the world – our past that insists itself into our present.
How can we articulate what is at stake for artistic practices beyond careerism bounded by market dynamics and avoid its banalization? Can art become an existential and critical paradigm by which we create universes of value/reference as an alternative to conforming to the status quo? How can we increase our capacity for experiencing beauty?
