ANAK BERMASALAH // 问题儿童 (“problem child”) deals with Southeast Asian folk music/poetry archives, but also related to me being my parents’ and country’s “problem children” as a queer Singaporean.
I discuss the context of each archival recording, which often includes a colonial history and problematic titles/descriptions and liner notes in accompaniment with field recordings and at times not-so-clever improvisation.
I’m not a professional researcher, but I try my best to learn, and I’d love to bring you along!
